At-need

Arrangements made after the death has occurred. The opposite of pre-need. The vast majority of funeral arrangements happen this way.

At-need arrangements happen in a window of urgency — usually 24 to 72 hours after death — and that pressure is what funeral home upselling exploits. Going in with a written GPL, a budget, and a clear sense of what services the family actually wants is the single biggest defense against being overcharged.
