How we’re paid
Honest Funeral is free to families, and we take no money from funeral homes or insurers. No one pays us yet. In the future, organizations such as employers may pay us to offer our tools to their people.
No one yet. When that changes, this page will say what kind of organization pays us.
Who could pay us
We plan to be paid by organizations that serve families:
- Employers that share our tools with their employees.
- Companies that offer our tools inside their own websites or apps.
Either kind would pay us to offer Honest Funeral to the people it serves. Our tools are free to every family, whether or not they came from an organization that pays us.
Who doesn’t pay us
Families don’t pay us. Funeral homes, cemeteries and insurers don’t pay us. We take no commissions, referral fees or payments for a listing from anyone, so no funeral home can pay to appear on our site or to appear higher on it.
How a fee is set
Each organization would pay a flat fee for a set period, agreed in advance. It isn’t charged per family, and it doesn’t depend on what anyone looks up, which funeral home a family chooses or what a family spends.
What a paying organization gets
Links and printable materials to share our tools with its people, a price list checker its staff can use that saves nothing, and a monthly report of totals, such as how often its link was opened. The report never shows a single family’s details, and any number under 5 shows as “fewer than 5”. Counting starts after our privacy review.
What it can’t do
An organization that pays us can’t:
- Change our information or results, including which funeral homes appear and in what order.
- Learn from us who you are, what you look up, the prices you check or which funeral home you choose.
- Put its own products or ads among our results.
If you open our site from an organization’s link, you’ll see its name in a banner that begins “Provided to you free by”. That’s all it can add to what you see.
If a company that pays us also sells things
Some companies that could offer our tools sell their own services too. We’ll only let a company offer our tools inside its website or app if it says there that it pays us, and keeps its own offers labeled as its own, apart from our results.
